G.R. Smith Becomes a Hired Gun for Screven and Fayetteville...

G.R. Smith, who has temporarily shut down his own Dirt Late Model operation recently, took advantage of a couple of different offers from car owners to compete last weekend at the Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Georgia (April 3) and the Fayetteville Motor Speedway in Fayetteville, North Carolina (April 4). On Friday night at Screven, G.R. drove the Starrette Trucking #22 entry in the $7,000 to win Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event. G.R. was in a transfer position in his competitive heat race when contact with another competitor caused him to spin. He unfortunately could not make his way into the 40-lap feature event at Screven.

On Saturday evening, the driver known as the "Wild Child" jumped behind the wheel of the Lovelace family #10 car at Fayetteville. After qualifying eleventh for the $4,000 to win Carolina Clash Late Model Series show, G.R. advanced into the main event by finishing fourth in his B-Main. He later started twenty-second on the grid, but quickly made his presence felt. He drove up to the fourth position and had his sights set on the leaders when a flat left front tire sent him pitside. After restarting at the tail end of the field, G.R. drove back up to seventh before the air cleaner popped off and relegated him to a disappointing fifteenth place performance.
